Install/Maintain/Repair
Installing a natural gas appliance can be simple and easy with the right
planning. We have several ways to assist with getting the comfort of natural gas
into your home. First, our installations team is qualified and ready to assist
you with piping and/or venting your appliance. While planning the placement of
your natural gas appliance, here are a few installation guidelines to consider:
Fireplace
The new ventless fireplaces offer many location options when installing, however
there are still some requirements to follow for installation of any fireplace.
Specific questions on installation of vented or ventless fireplaces should be
answered according to the manufacture's instructions and the Southern Builders
Code.
Water Heater
According to the Standard Gas Code, the following requirements should be
followed when installing a water heater:
- Installation should be at least 18 inches above the floor
- The water heater cannot be installed inside a bedroom or bath, however it may be
enclosed in a closet if properly ventilated and installed according to the
Standard Gas Code.
Furnace
Proper ventilation is required when installing a furnace. According to the
Standard Mechanical Code, here are a few requirements that should be followed
when installing a furnace:
- The furnace must be enclosed,
- The combustion air must come from the outside, and
- The combustion air and the return air must be separated.
Natural Gas Meter
In accordance with the Fire and Safety Codes, we can not set a meter in the
following locations:
- Under a window,
- Within three feet of a window,
- Within three feet of any electrical service (or the electric meter), or
- Within three feet of an air conditioner.
The Customer is responsible for the installation and cost of all natural gas
piping installed from the meter to each natural gas appliance. We offer
assistance with these installation piping costs with a residential line footage
allowance.
